An abandoned car led Barrie Police to the home of a man who is now facing several charges. Police say they received reports Sunday night that a vehicle had collided with a number of parked cars along Stanley Street in northeast Barrie. Sometime later, police found a vehicle abandoned in the area of Highway 400 near Tiffin Street that matched the description on the vehicle involved in the collisions. Police say they were able to identify the registered owner and make their way to owner’s address. At the home, police encountered a man who they say matched the description of the driver reported to police earlier by witnesses. Police claim the man had a strong odour of alcohol coming from him and had slurred speech. Another person at the home told officers that the man in question had just arrived. The man was then arrested and police say later tests confirmed he had a blood alcohol concentration level of more than twice the legal limit. The man is now facing two charges of impaired operation, a charge of dangerous operation and a charge of failing to remain. Police say it is unclear how many total cars were damaged in the collisions and are turning the public for help. Anyone with dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact police.
