The City of Edmonton says warmer-than-usual temperatures this week will bolster a last-minute construction push before the snow sets in. “Road construction, specifically concrete and asphalt pavement, is heavily weather dependent. This extra weather helps us achieve our goals to complete our work and hopefully get our projects done,” Jason Meliefste, branch manager of the city’s infrastructure delivery, told CTV News Edmonton. “One of the things we’re trying to work against (in the winter) is early frost and freezing ground conditions, which can interfere with our ability to get quality infrastructure completely. So we have a couple of projects that we’re watching very closely.” Warmer November weather may also help long-term projects by keeping heating costs down and streamlining productivity. Officials are expected to give an update next week on LRT, road and bridge projects after this summer’s constant rain made hitting construction milestones tricky.
