With more than 100 active wildfires burning across B.C. forcing thousands to evacuate their homes, Alberta has sent nearly 200 firefighters to support crews. Alberta’s ministry of forestry and parks said 186 firefighters are already out west with 40 more on the way Tuesday. Aerial resources are also being lended to B.C. including two airtankers, two helitankers and one helicopter. There are also 45 support staff assisting, including an incident management team that is leaving for B.C. Monday. “In recent years, Alberta has been a recipient of help from other provinces during challenging wildfire seasons, and we are proud to offer our assistance in return,” said the ministry in a statement Monday. B.C. Premier David Eby said there has been significant losses of homes and property with nearly half of the 102 active wildfires burning out of control. The premier declared a provincial state of emergency over the weekend. An 80-year-old woman died as a result of a wildfire in the Summerland area that forced 20,000 to evacuate.
