A 50-year-old man is facing several charges after a string of alleged unprovoked assaults in downtown Vancouver—all within the span of 30 minutes—according to police. In a news release Monday, the Vancouver Police Department said four random assaults were reported on Saturday, and they believe there may be more victims. Police said they were notified of the first attack shortly after 2:40 p.m., when the suspect reportedly went inside a business near Homer and Dunsmuir streets. Investigators said the man allegedly demanded money from workers and customers before throwing an object that struck two employees, leaving them with minor injuries. Police said they believe the same man then approached someone walking on Beatty Street and asked them for money. When the person declined, the suspect allegedly punched them in the face and fled the area. About 10 minutes later, police said they received another report of a victim who was allegedly punched in the face near the intersection of Cambie and Cordova streets. “These incidents are particularly concerning because they appear to have been completely unprovoked, and none of the victims had any prior interaction with the suspect,” said Const. Megan Lui, in a statement. “Through extensive video canvassing and proactive patrols in the area, officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest a suspect closely matching the description given by witnesses. We believe there may be additional victims and encourage anyone affected by or who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the Vancouver Police Department.” Marc Ledoux has been charged with a number of offences, including two counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of uttering threats and one count of mischief. Police said Ledoux remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
