Dozens of people have been displaced after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Victoria’s James Bay neighbourhood.
Crews were called to Anondale Court at 443 Superior Street just after 6 p.m., while heavy smoke could be seen from across James Bay and downtown Victoria.
The four-storey building was evacuated and around a dozen firefighters quickly jumped into action, bringing the fire under control shortly after.
No one was injured and at least five suites sustained damage from fire, smoke and water.
Residents in all 71 suites weren’t allowed back into the building Tuesday night and were put up in hotels.
Investigators have deemed the cause of the fire to be human error, but are not considering it to be suspicious.
Damage to the building is pegged at around $500,000.
