The province says it’s disappointed that more campers haven’t left a massive tent city on the lawn of the Victoria Courthouse.
B.C. had issued campers a move-out deadline of Thursday, but it came and went with little movement as many remained at the site.
A government spokesperson said the province is encouraging tent city residents to move in to available affordable housing and shelter spaces over the weekend.
It will then assess how many campers are still at the site and consider further action on Monday.
Those options could include filing an injunction to force campers out of the downtown Victoria site that more than 100 people call home.
The province said it wants to see the courthouse grounds return to being a public area.
The camp sprang up because a city bylaw prohibiting camping in parks past 7 a.m. doesn’t apply to the Victoria Courthouse, which is considered provincially owned land.
