Cold and foggy to start off Tuesday in Calgary

Below seasonal temperature for Tuesday. Gina Martin has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

The snow has stopped but the clean up from Monday’s winter wallop has just begun.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has released some preliminary numbers about how much snow parts of the province received yesterday.

The Calgary International Airport reported nine centimetres, while other volunteer third party observers reported 10-18 centimetres throughout the city.

Elsewhere in Alberta, many places reported between nine to 15 centimetres.

It’s a cool start to the day, clearing conditions overnight allowed a lot of heat trapped at the surface to escape resulting in morning temperatures around -12 C feeling like -18 C with the wind.

There’s also a bit of fog as well for areas in the southwest and northwest, extending outside the city towards the mountains.

Once sunrise begins at 8:09 a.m. we should see a much more stable day ahead of us, with a ridge moving in bringing some sunshine but not much warmth.

The ridge will stick around for a few days, then late Thursday, another adjustment to the jet stream could bring another chance for some late day flurries that will continue overnight and into Friday morning.

This system likely won’t be severe as Monday’s snow event, but the below seasonal temperatures could make the roads dicey once again.

There are some warm temperatures in the long range forecast (though that is always subject to change).

As it stands, we’ll rally to above seasonal temperatures once December arrives for a couple of days before returning to highs below freezing.
