The Province of Nova Scotia says 911 service has been restored and is operating normally following intermittent outages Thursday morning. The outages affected some wireless and voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) phone users due to a technical issue with Bell. The telecommunications provider confirmed that “an issue with the next-generation 9-1-1 network” was detected at 3:13 a.m ET. An email statement says the provider used backup systems to route calls to emergency services and has confirmed that 911 services have been fully restored. “We are investigating the root cause of the issue and will have further details once available,” the statement reads. The outage also affected customers in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. “People should continue to call 911 in an emergency when they require immediate police, fire or medical assistance,” reads an update from Nova Scotia officials. “Anyone experiencing ongoing issues connecting to 911 should contact their telecommunications service provider.” CTV News, BNN Bloomberg and CP24 are owned by Bell Media, which is a division of BCE.
