Cavalry FC was on the pitch at the Macron Performance Centre on Friday morning for a training session. Cavalry boarded a plane for Quebec after that to take on Supra on Sunday. Defender Amer Didic says the team wants to get in a good position in the first leg of the two-leg series. “Obviously, going into a first of a two-leg game away from home, you’ve got to play a little bit different,” said Didic. “You’ve got to be smarter, and you’ve got to be tactically sound and do what you have to do to come away and not be down a goal or anything, so then you can come home and do what you have to do.” Much-improved Supra squad Supra is a much different team than the one Cavalry faced on Sept. 25. In that game, Cavalry had its way with Supra, beating the Quebec squad six-nil. After that game, Supra changed its manager, hiring Kyriakos Selaidopoulos. Since then, it’s been on a roll, winning four games and drawing one. Cavalry defender Eryk Kobza knows this will be a much different Supra on Sunday. “I don’t think you can take the last game and draw any similarities,” he said. “Obviously, a new manager came in, and he has different principles, but we’ve watched it and analyzed it and it’s up to us to nullify their strengths and expose their weaknesses. “Of course, we prepare for the opposition, but again, at the end of the day, it’s about us. It’s about how we show up.” Cavalry wants the double Cavalry certainly enjoyed winning the shield as the regular season champ, but now it’s time to move on to bigger things. Head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. says Cavalry wants to become the first team in CPL history to lift the shield and win the championship in the same season. That run starts on Sunday. “Obviously, the hardest one to win is the regular season because it has to be consistent over a long period of time,” said Wheeldon. “This one is three games now, and it’s the most fun because it’s the last game of the season, and I’m sure the lads would like the champagne celebration to last into the off-season. “Nobody’s ever done it, so if we’re going to be the greatest team this league has ever seen, we need to win that.” The second leg of the series will be played at Atco Field next Saturday.
