Calgary overdose death leads to arrest of alleged drug trafficker: police

Calgary police say an investigation into an overdose death has led to charges being laid against an alleged drug trafficker.

The victim was found dead in a home in Coral Springs in January.

In March, officers received information about who was believed to have sold drugs to the deceased.

Police launched an investigation into the man, and, on April 22, executed a search warrant on a home in the 2500 block of 49 Avenue S.E.

During the search, police say officers seized approximately 151.9 grams of hydromorphone, 7.5 grams of methamphetamine and 6.6 grams of fentanyl.

A stolen e-bike worth more than $9,000 was also recovered.

Police say it has since been returned to its rightful owner.

A 44-year-old man is now facing more than a dozen charges.

Police say there was insufficient evidence to lay charges in relation to the overdose death, but the evidence found during the investigation “identified drug traffickers who had previous contact with the deceased.”
