Bear Mountain is living up to its name after a man living near the West Shore golf resort caught a late night visitor on surveillance cameras.

Justin Sealy said he was awake at around 2:30 a.m. Friday when he got a notification on his phone from an app connected to a motion sensor camera.

When he looked at his phone, he saw a massive bear plod up to his door before it took a stroll down Nicklaus Drive.

Sealy said he's lived in the home for three years and has never seen a bear in the area prior to this.

The BC Conservation Officer Service said it's aware of the bear, and that it has feasted on garbage on Bear Mountain for years.

So far, efforts to catch it have been unsuccessful.

Conservation officer Peter Pauwels estimated that there have been 100 or more sightings of the same bear in the last few years.
