Six people were rescued on Sunday after a small boat sank and a kayak flipped over near Mayne Island, BC Ferries says.
Deborah Marshall says the Spirit of Vancouver Island got the call around 9:45 a.m. about a small runabout that was sinking off Georgina Point.
Two kayakers from Mayne Island went to help, but their kayak flipped over resulting in six people needing to be rescued.
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria sent the coast guard from Ganges, a hovercraft from Richmond and auxiliary from Point Roberts and nearby vessels.
It says the four boaters were wearing life jackets and were clinging to a water cooler.
All six individuals were treated for mild hypothermia.
As a result of the rescue, the Spirit of Vancouver Island was running about 30 minutes behind schedule.
