A vehicle was found underwater at the bottom of a canal in Kawartha Lakes on the weekend. According to police, they believe no one was inside the vehicle. Police say they were called to the canal west of Balsam Lake Saturday at around 12:23 p.m. for a fully submerged pick-up truck. Authorities say crews were sent to the scene along with the OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit (USRU) who was in the area already searching for a missing plane police say was unrelated to the truck incident. A spokesperson for the OPP confirmed to CTV News the USRU assisted to ensure there wasn’t someone in the truck, which police determined there wasn’t. Police removed the truck from the canal. It is unclear how the vehicle got into the canal in the first place. The investigation is ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the truck going into the canal or has any footage of the area at the time to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Detachment.
