An Ontario Provincial Police officer from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment has been charged with sexual assault and breach of trust following an investigation by the province’s police watchdog. The Special Investigations Unit said Monday that OPP Const. Zahid Javed is facing three counts of sexual assault and three counts of breach of trust. The charges stem from allegations involving three women and incidents the SIU says took place between August 2024 and October 2025. The probe began after police contacted the SIU on Feb. 6, 2026, regarding an allegation of sexual assault involving an officer and a woman. While investigating that allegation, the SIU said it learned of separate alleged incidents involving two additional women. SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were reasonable grounds to believe Javed had committed criminal offences. Javed was arrested at SIU headquarters Monday morning and later released with several conditions. One of those conditions prohibits him from communicating directly or indirectly with the affected people. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 10. The SIU said it will not comment on the investigation while the case is before the courts. The allegations against Javed have not been proven in court.
