A 30 year-old Barrie man is in hospital after being shot by a single bullet. It happened moments after leaving an establishment along Dunlop Street in Barrie, just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday. Bob Sproats said his son, Jordan, had one surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto Sunday night, with a second surgery possible Monday night. The entire incident was caught on nearby video surveillance cameras. The shocking video shows a group of people arguing on Dunlop Street, west of Mulcaster Street, just before the shooting. Moments later, the people involved move west along Dunlop Street when they come to a stop. Then a person, with what looked to be a black bag strap hanging over his shoulder, walks up and appears to fire a gun. The alleged shooter was then seen running east on Dunlop Street. Jordan Sproats was shot in the chest. The bullet came out his lower back. Bob Sproats said his son has had his spleen and a kidney removed. News of the shooting in the city’s core has spread quickly, with much surprise to residents. Businesses in the downtown are also reacting to the shooting. “Something like this does not help for sure,” said Steve Ricalis, business owner. “Things like this happen, not just in Barrie, but they happen everywhere, so we have to look at it like that, and the downtown really needs local support right now.” Bob Sproats said his son will be in hospital for at least the next month. Police are still looking for the suspect in the shooting.
