A 16-year-old has pleaded guilty to his involvement in an assault at a Barrie secondary school with a machete. The incident dates back to April 7, around lunch time when the accused engaged in what was reported as a planned fight between him and another teen. The fight reportedly happened near Bear Creek Secondary School located on Red Oak Drive. According to school staff, the suspects showed up to the fight with masks on. Video obtained by CTV News of the incident shows a person swinging a machete at other people involved in the fight. Another victim was hit in the torso, according to police. Police say the weapon never came out of its sheath. Authorities say the suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. The accused, who was 15 at the time, was wearing a hoodie and black facemask. He was identified and arrested two days later. On Tuesday, the accused pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The Crown asked for a 24-month probation term, but Justice Stacey Nichols sentenced the youth to 18 months of probation.
