Police are investigating an alleged swatting incident in the Quispamsis, N.B., area. Kennebecasis Regional Police Force (KRPF) say they responded to a report of a “serious incident” at a residence near Colton Brook Road at around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday. “The initial information provided to police indicated that there was a potential threat at a residence, resulting in a significant police response,” read a news release. “Upon further investigation, police determined that the information provided was false and that the incident was consistent with what is commonly referred to as a “swatting” incident—the intentional submission of false information to police in an effort to prompt an emergency police response.” Investigators say there was no threat to the public and no ongoing risk to residents in the area. Police add that intentionally providing false information to police is a serious matter and may result in criminal charges.
