New Brunswickers will be able to roll up their sleeves for their COVID-19 and flu vaccines later this month. Both shots will be free and available to everyone aged six months and older beginning Oct. 13. The province’s health department strongly recommends the vaccines for those at risk of severe infection, such as seniors and those with chronic health conditions. New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health says they help protect everyone. “Receiving both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines can reduce the chance of becoming seriously ill, requiring hospitalization and spreading illness to others. If you are eligible for both, we encourage you to get them at the same visit,” said Dr. Yves Léger in a provincial news release. Appointments can be made online or at participating community pharmacies. The shots will also be available through certain primary care providers. Children can receive their vaccines through a primary care provider as well, or at a local public health office. Some pharmacies also offer them, although availability varies by location. FluMist, a nasal spray that helps protect against influenza, is also available for children who may be hesitant about traditional vaccines.
