Anyone heading to Georgian Bay General Hospital over the next two days will have to use a different entrance as construction temporarily closes the hospital’s main doors. The main entrance will be closed Friday and Saturday, with patients, visitors and staff directed to enter through the Emergency Department. Staff say all appointments, clinics and hospital services will continue as scheduled. The two-day closure is part of ongoing work to make the hospital entrance safer and more accessible. Construction began this month and is expected to continue through the end of October. Upgrades are underway Upgrades include widening the patient drop-off loop to improve traffic flow, enhancing sidewalks and walkways, and replacing the main entrance floor tile with a more durable, slip-resistant surface. “We are excited to make these improvements that will help create a safer, more accessible, and welcoming experience for everyone who visits GBGH,” said Aly Wang, manager of facilities and capital planning. Visitors should expect temporary changes to pedestrian routes, traffic patterns and drop-off locations. Hospital staff say the Mid-Pen Transit stop will also be temporarily relocated to the back of Canadian Tire on Penetanguishene Road.
