It will be at least another day before the main water line to the remote First Nations village of Ahousaht is repaired, meaning more than 600 people living on an island off the west coast Vancouver Island will have to keep waiting for clean water.

Deputy chief councillor Patti Charleson says a pipe burst Friday, shutting down the entire water system.

She says residents are drawing untreated water from a local dam, but must boil it before use.

Nearby communities have donated bottled water while crews scramble to repair the line, hopefully by tomorrow.
