A Victoria man has been convicted of manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of a known drug dealer in Langford.

The jury returned the verdict in the trial of Daniel Phelps late this morning after beginning deliberations last night.

The Crown had argued that Phelps beat 30-year old Kyle Jansen and stabbed him in the leg before stealing his heroin in January 2015.

Police testified that Phelps, who has a long criminal record, appeared to be overdosing on heroin when he was arrested the next day.

A date for Phelps' sentencing has not yet been set.
