A new venture in Victoria hopes residents both young and old will want to bounce to new heights.

CTV News has learned Flying Squirrel and Axis Trampoline Parks, companies known for their massive indoor trampoline parks, are merging to open Vancouver Island’s first park in Esquimalt this fall.

The more than 20,000-square-foot facility will include slam dunk trampolines, trampoline dodgeball courts, foam pits, a rope swing and three Olympic-level trampolines.

It will also feature a massive, 13,000-square-foot interconnected trampoline with walls made of the springy material.

The park will be the first of its kind in Western Canada to include patented new “shock” technology that eases impact on padding that covers the trampoline frames.

Operator Alex Campbell said it all adds up to one of the most advanced trampoline park structures in the industry to date, with an emphasis on cleanliness and safety.

“We just really want to pride ourselves on creating something that is aesthetically pleasing,” he said. “Something that’s really, really clean and comfortable.”

Those concerned about sending their children into a foam pit along with hundreds of other kids need not worry about germs, Campbell said.

He said staff will pull out every single cube and sanitize them once a week – amounting to a 10-hour job.

But the park won’t just be for kids.

“Absolutely not. This is for everybody. I’m in my thirties and I still consider myself a kid,” Campbell said. “If you’re a little bit older, just maybe do a little more stretching before and after or you will be sore.”

The operators plans to open the park in a former industrial warehouse at 808 Viewfield Road sometime in fall.

An exact date hasn’t been specified as operators hammer out a lease agreement with the Capital Regional District.
