Five people are recovering in hospital following a two-car crash on the Trans-Canada Highway in Mill Bay Friday.

RCMP told CTV News that a vehicle with one passenger was travelling southbound and another vehicle carrying four passengers was heading north on the TCH. The northbound vehicle was turning left when it hit the southbound car.

The accident happened at around noon.

The jaws of life were used to cut the roof off the car with four people inside.

All five individuals were transported to hospital, one by air ambulance. The condition of those involved is unknown.

One northbound lane was open and all southbound lanes were closed for at least two hours, causing traffic delays. All lanes have since re-opened.
