A brazen theft was caught on camera at a Sooke beach when a bald eagle snatched a freshly caught fish right out of the paws of an otter.

Jessica Simmons was at Ella Beach Monday morning with her son, taking videos to send to her military husband, when they saw several of the adorable marine mammals in the water.

One of them came onto the shore to snack on a fish it had just caught when the eagle swooped in.

“I was just going to take a little video to send, and suddenly the eagle appeared. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and happened to keep my phone still,” she said.

The eagle boldly snatched the fish away from the critter and took off to feast on its thieved catch.

“I was just shocked,” she said.

The otter quickly dashed back into the safety of the ocean, making loud chirping noises with its family.

“I assume they might’ve been a little angry,” said Simmons.

No word on whether the otter is considering charges against the bold-beaked thief.
