A man walked away with non-life threatening injuries after his car hit a median and caught fire on the Nanaimo Parkway early Saturday morning.
The vehicle struck the median on Highway 19 at Northfield Road around 12:30 a.m.
Police say the driver was the only person inside the vehicle and is believed to be from Parksville.
He was able to escape with the help of bystanders, according to officials.
The man, who police describe to be in his early to mid-30’s, suffered smoke inhalation and non-life threatening injuries to his lower body. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
