Snow in May is not unheard in southern Manitoba, but it is tough to take considering spring officially arrived more than six weeks ago. Nonetheless, light snow has fallen intermittently across the region on Tuesday, including in Winnipeg and Brandon. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, snow or flurries should diminish in the south this afternoon as drier air moves into the region. Otherwise, Tuesday feels like a repeat of Monday – cloudy with unseasonably cold temperatures in strong and gusty northwest winds. Daytime highs in the southeast will only reach up to 3 C on Tuesday, a far cry from the normal high of 17 C for this time of year in Winnipeg. Temperatures in the southwest will be marginally warmer, around 4 C or 5 C. The normal early May high for Brandon and Dauphin is 16 C. Conditions in northwestern Ontario will be much the same Tuesday—cool, cloudy and windy, with scattered light snow or freezing rain. Light snow is also likely across most of northern Manitoba on Tuesday, with daytime highs below the freezing mark or just slightly above it in more central areas. Back in the south, brace yourself for one more cool, cloudy day this week on Wednesday. The next date to circle on the calendar is Thursday, when more seasonal conditions begin to return. In Winnipeg, sunshine and a high near 14 C are expected.
