Windsor’s Macro Foods with the help of first responders delivered 500 meals throughout the community on Friday. It’s their third annual Macro Foods Meals Campaign that helps those in need in Windsor-Essex, London, Sarnia and Waterloo areas. On Friday, the charitable effort involved teaming up with Windsor’s police officers, firefighters and paramedics teamed to deliver meals to local organizations including The Downtown Mission, Hiatus House, and The Salvation Army. Organizers say the need to feed remains high with community agencies continuing to see strong demand for food support. Rayan Jamal is the regional manager for Macro Foods. Jamal and his team dedicated to the cause but recognize so much more needs to be done. “Year after year, the demand just keeps going up, we’re happy to give back more and more, but it’s not a good sign,” said Jamal. “It shows that hard times are getting tougher for people, it’s harder to eat, and the basic necessity to survive is food. And unfortunately, we’re realizing right now it’s a lot of people are deciding between eating dinner or paying rent, and we’re just happy that we’re able to contribute. And hopefully the need starts going down.” When asked what the private sector can do especially in these economic times to help. “Something that we’ve learned of almost 11 years of being in business is that you never lose by giving more. You never lose by giving. The more you give, the more you get back,” responded Jamal.
