Posts to social media by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Detroit helped reunite a K9 with his former trainer via video call. The CBP posted to its Instagram, sharing what K9 Barnes can do, helping to stop unwanted agricultural items from coming into the country. That video made it to the mother of Priya Armour, who raised Barnes for 18 months, before he left to work. But she had no idea where he ended up. Then, Barnes and Armour then reconnected. He showed off his tricks, new and old, displaying just how much he has grown. “When he was eight weeks old, they flew him to Austin [Texas], and then I got him from there and had him for a year and a half,” Armour recalled. Barnes now helps the CBP detect undeclared goods, protecting the U.S. from unwanted pests. “Thank you for all your hard work you’ve done with Barnes,” his handler said to Armour. “It really has made a difference here; it’s definitely helped in a lot of ways.” Armour said she is very proud of Barnes. “I’m honestly so overjoyed that he just looks so happy and fulfilled in all of the pictures and the videos I see and it’s all I ever really wanted for him,” she said.
