The town of Strasbourg has rallied behind a teenager who was involved in a serious farming accident in July. Lyle Mohr was working in a field when he was struck in the head by a piece of farm equipment. He suffered a brain injury and broken neck. Since then, the motto “Lyle Mohr Strength,” has appeared on flags, signs, coffee mugs and hats in support of the teen’s recovery. “We have had a coffee mug down in Wyoming. Some stuff has been sent to Africa where Lyle has a good friend who is from there,” said Janelle Wilson, Lyle’s aunt. The Lyle Mohr Strength flag has also appeared across Saskatchewan. Pictures and videos online show farming machinery donning the slogan. Carol Schultz, a volunteer and lifelong community resident from Strasbourg, said the news of Mohr’s injury shook up the community. She has known Mohr his entire life and now looks forward to updates on his condition. “It doesn’t matter what we are doing, it seems like we are stopping and reading every word she has written. Looking at every picture. We love it, it is giving everyone hope,” she said. The Strasbourg EMS team is run by Mohr’s family. His aunt and cousin were on scene of the accident. Wilson said it was one of her worst fears attending a severe accident involving a family member, but said she is happy they were able to get the help he needed. Since then, Mohr has had four surgeries, including two for his neck. He is currently at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre and is learning to walk and speak again. “It is an accident that is life changing for Lyle for sure. Because of the traumatic brain injuries, they don’t follow a set pattern of recovery,” Wilson said. Wilson attributed prayer and community support for Mohr’s quick recovery and said he is a miracle. “We know we are supported in this community for sure, but I didn’t realize how much the community also needed to hear how Lyle was improving,” Wilson said. She concluded, “It’s been this give and take with the community. They have lent us all the strength.” For the time being, all Lyle Mohr Strength signage has been put on halt as Mohr navigates his recovery, A trust account has been created in Mohr’s name. A larger fundraiser is being planned.
