Quebec’s earthquake drill is taking place across the province at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, the City of Montreal announced. The Great ShakeOut is held annually on the third Thursday of October and aims to raise awareness of earthquake risks. It also encourages residents, businesses, and institutions to update their emergency plans and emergency preparedness kits. “Since the island of Montreal is located in a seismic area, residents are invited to take part in this earthquake awareness and preparedness event, by taking the following action, as directed: Drop, cover and hold on until the shaking stops,” the announcement reads. These actions could significantly reduce the risk of injury in the event of an earthquake. “Montreal is encouraging everyone to practice this technique, known as the safest course of action during an earthquake.”
