Four firearms along with five magazines and 54 rounds of ammunition have been seized at local border crossings. The Canada Border Services Agency says three seizures happened at the Gordie Howe International Bridge and one occurred at the Ambassador Bridge. On July 27, CBSA officers at the Ambassador Bridge seized a firearm and 30 mg of cannabis from a U.S. resident. The U.S. traveller was arrested under the Customs Act and paid a fine of $1,000. Four days later, CBSA officers at the Gordie Howe International Bridge seized a prohibited firearm from a commercial driver. The U.S. resident was arrested under the Customs Act, paid a penalty of $1,000 and was returned to the U.S. CBSA says there were two more seizures at the Gordie Howe International Bridge on Aug. 3. The first involved the seizure of a prohibited firearm, five magazines, 54 rounds of ammunition, a prohibited knife and a cannabis vape cartridge. The U.S. resident was arrested under the Customs Act, paid a penalty of $2,000 and was returned to the United States. The second incident on Aug. 3 involved the seizure of a prohibited firearm from a United States resident. The U.S. resident was arrested under the Customs Act, paid a $1,000 fine and was returned to the U.S. CBSA says no charges were laid as a result of the seizures.
