A woman was allegedly “choked, bitten on the face and hand, and pulled to the ground” by a stranger while walking to work in downtown Vancouver, according to authorities. The incident occurred near Robson and Homer streets on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m., the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement. “The suspect left the area and was quickly located by police a block away,” police said. “The suspect and victim did not know each other, and the assault was unprovoked. The motive is unknown at this time.” Jayleen McKay, a 34-year-old woman, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault by choking, the VPD said. She remains in custody, with court records showing an appearance scheduled Thursday at 5 p.m. Publicly available records for B.C. do not show any previous criminal charges or convictions for McKay.
