The Saskatoon Exhibition is officially underway, and there are plenty of unique and delicious options available for foodies. New this year is an out-of-this-world burger, the Area 51 Taco Burger, which the EX describes as “a UFO-shaped creation packed with bold Mexican-inspired flavours, a Doritos-crusted bun and enough cosmic flair to stop you in your tracks.” Pickle-lovers will likely want to try the Garlic Parm Twisted Pickle, a battered and fried pickle topped with creamy garlic aioli and dusted with parmesan. If you’re looking for something sweet, there’s a Cookies N Cream Korean Corndog, a sweet-and-savoury mashup combining a classic corndog with sweet icing and crushed Oreos. Sticking with dessert corndogs (where else but the EX?) Big Coco’s is offering up a Cinna-Dog. It’s described as “what happens when a corndog sneaks into the cereal aisle and comes back legendary.” The classic corndog is topped with sweet frosting and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, perfect for when you’re craving a hotdog and bowl of cereal at the same time. For those looking for more traditional options, there are the usual suspects like cotton candy, hotdogs and popcorn, as well as the always-popular Doukhobour Bread, baked on-site in authentic wood-fire ovens. One trademark Saskatoon EX food that won’t be making a return is the spudnut. The EX made the decision following a review of operational requirements, facility needs and staffing required to run the spudnut booth. The Saskatoon EX runs until Aug. 6.
