SURREY — British Columbia’s police watchdog says it has cleared officers of wrongdoing after a confrontation in April where a man shot and wounded himself. The Independent Investigations Office says Mounties were called to a home on Nason Street in Quesnel on April 15 after receiving reports of gunshots and a man in possession of a firearm. The office says in a news release that officers set up a containment around the home and told people nearby to stay in their homes or shelter in a basement. The office says when police entered the home, they found the man suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment, and the IIO was notified and began its investigation. The office says after analyzing all available evidence, including video footage from police body-worn cameras, investigators determined there was no connection between police actions or inaction and the man’s injuries.
