Wanted man in go-kart tried fleeing at ‘incredibly low speed,’ B.C. police say

Authorities said they had little trouble nabbing a wanted man who was recently spotted driving a homemade go-kart on the road in B.C.’s Lower Mainland.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police said they initiated a traffic stop after seeing the suspect scooting around in the early morning hours of April 30 in New Westminster.

The driver then “attempted to flee from police at an incredibly low speed,” the department said in a social media post.

“Luckily, his wheel got stuck in gravel and an arrest was made before any red shells or banana peels had to be deployed,” police added, referencing items from the Nintendo game Mario Kart.

The driver was found to be wanted on three outstanding warrants, which police speculated was his reason for allegedly trying to evade the traffic stop.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was arrested and held in custody pending a court appearance.

Transit police would not comment on the charges the driver is facing.
