Mounties say a suspect has been arrested following a series of vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles in the Cultus Lake area over the summer. In a news release Thursday, Chilliwack RCMP said the investigation stems from reports dating back to the end of June and has included reviewing recent crime trends and information shared on social media. RCMP said investigators have been working to identify patterns, locations of concern and people who may be involved. A suspect was arrested Thursday, following a co-ordinated investigation involving Chilliwack RCMP frontline officers and the Priority Target Team. Police said the arrest was connected to several of the reported thefts. Investigators said they’re continuing to gather evidence related to a number of stolen vehicles that were later recovered throughout Chilliwack. A report to Crown counsel will be submitted for consideration of charges once the investigation is complete, authorities said. “Property theft has a significant impact on victims and create understandable concern within the community,” said Cpl. Carmen Kiener in the release. “Our officers and analysts closely monitor crime trends and work collaboratively to identify and hold those responsible accountable. We want the public to know these investigations remain a priority, and we are committed to keeping our communities safe.” Mounties are asking anyone with information about vehicle or property thefts in the Cultus Lake area who has not yet spoken with investigators to call Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 and quote file number 2026-29433.
