Snowfall warnings have been issued for several B.C. highways on Boxing Day, including the winding route connecting Vancouver to Whistler. Environment and Climate Change Canada said a low-pressure system moving over the Lower Mainland has dumped up to 15 centimetres of snow onto parts of the Sea to Sky Highway since Thursday night, and more is expected Friday. Up to 10 more centimetres could fall on the highway “before the snow tapers off early this afternoon,” the weather agency said in a yellow-coded snowfall warning. “Travel will likely be challenging,” the warning reads. “Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will likely be reduced at times.” An approaching frontal system is also expected to deliver 10 to 20 centimetres of snow onto some highways in the B.C. Interior. Warnings have been issued for the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, and for parts of the Yellowhead Highway and Highway 97. “Weather in the mountains can change suddenly, resulting in hazardous driving conditions,” ECCC warned. “Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.” The latest driving condition can be found on the DriveBC website.
