A pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run crash in Vancouver’s Marpole neighbourhood Thursday morning, but police say the driver who left the scene may not have realized the collision occurred. In an email to CTV News, the Vancouver Police Department said its officers were called to the intersection of West 70th Avenue and Granville Street shortly before 8 a.m. for a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Police did not share any identifying details about the pedestrian, such as age or gender. B.C. Emergency Health Services said it dispatched two ambulances, one with primary care paramedics and one with advanced care paramedics, to the scene. “Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition,” the agency said in an emailed statement. Asked for more information, a VPD spokesperson confirmed police believe the incident involved a dump truck, and that there was no indication that the vehicle or its driver had remained at the scene. The spokesperson noted that investigators believe it’s possible the driver was unaware that the pedestrian had been hit. “The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation,” the VPD’s email reads. “Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash camera footage from the area around the time of the collision to contact investigators.”
