Burnaby RCMP investigating string of indecent acts in Central Park

Mounties in Burnaby are investigating indecent acts that have been reported in the city’s Central Park this week.

Burnaby RCMP said in a statement Friday that they had received “three separate reports” about incidents that occurred on July 5, 6 and 9. All three involved a male suspect, but they occurred in different areas of the park and at different times of day, police said.

The indecent acts “ranged from the suspect exposing himself to masturbating in public,” according to police.

“Investigators are conducting interviews and piecing together details reported by the victims in an effort to identify a suspect or suspects and determine if any of the incidents may be connected,” the statement reads, adding that police are also working to collect further evidence, including surveillance video.

Visitors to the park in the coming days can expect an increased police presence, Burnaby RCMP said.

“These types of incidents are extremely concerning for police and the public,” said Cpl. Michael Kalanj, in the statement.

“We want to ensure that people are informed, so they remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions, including staying aware of their surroundings. We also want to strongly encourage people to contact police immediately to report any similar incidents or suspicious behaviour.”
