One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a freight train crashed into a pickup truck in Maple Ridge, B.C., on Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities. Local RCMP say officers were called around 2 p.m. to the 25700 block of Lougheed Highway, where the significantly damaged truck and its two occupants were found. Police say paramedics pronounced a woman dead at the scene and a man was taken to hospital. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and CPKC Police were notified. Mounties say the train operator is co-operating with the investigation. CPKC says none of its workers were injured and the freight train was moved away from the area Wednesday evening. “Officers spoke to potential witnesses on scene and are looking into all possible factors. The investigation is ongoing,” Maple Ridge RCMP wrote in a statement Thursday. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the detachment at 604-463-6251.
