Toronto firefighters along with police responded to a large house fire in the city’s east end Saturday morning. The incident happened in the Gerrard Street East and Jones Avenue area around shortly before 8 a.m. In a post to social media, police confirm the fire was later extinguished and that no injuries were reported. As a result, Gerrard Street East was initially closed in both directions between Jones and Marjory Avenue as crews responded. Gerrard Street East has since reopened, but Galt Avenue remains closed north of Gerrard Street East. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Drivers are being asked to use alternate routes while road restrictions remain in place.
