Dandy’s Artisan Ice Cream on south Albert Street was lined up out the door when they opened for business on Friday at noon. Ice cream fans both young and old flocked to the local ice cream store to grab a scoop or take home some pints one last time. The business will be shutting its door at the end of the weekend. CTV News reached out to Dandy’s ownership to try and get more information on the closure but was unable to land an interview. Local ice cream fan Ember Pratt was on hand at the south location on Friday with her children, who were having their first Dandy’s experience. “I have a one-year-old daughter, and she just had her first ice cream here today. Just like this guy had his first ice cream, and so did Wyatt. So, it’s our last first ice cream at Dandy’s,” she said. “We frequented here all year round. It was really nice, easy to get to venue, and I’m going to miss the selection for sure.” For Marilyn Cleveland, the love for Dandy’s is also a family affair. “They’re artesian ice cream, so it’s not like the Dairy Queen or any of the other places. It’s really good, it’s gluten free, which is good for me because I need to be gluten free and my boys don’t live here. One lives in Saskatoon and one in Edmonton. And whenever they come here, they bring me here,” she said. “My son in Edmonton sent me money from Alberta to get some ice cream, so I got some ice cream,” she added with a chuckle. Cleveland said she will miss the unique Dandy’s flavors the most, along with their pleasant customer service.
