Numerous attempts to get a corn snake out of a storm drain in Victoria had failed as of Friday afternoon.

The stubborn snake has been in the pipe near Quadra and Mason streets since at least Wednesday

Two dead mice were put down the drain for the snake on Thursday and the snake ate one of them overnight.

On Friday, the city said it’s taking a “wait and see” approach over the next two to three days.

The capital region’s animal control consulted with experts on the Lower Mainland.

The snake is set to shed its skin and that’s why it’s not eating as much as it normally would, Chris Coates with the city says.

“The moulting process is going on so that tends to make the snakes rather lethargic and uninterested in food,” Coates added. “That process can take up to a week to complete.”
