It’s not the rescue call the Okanagan Humane Society is used to getting. Around midday Friday, the group received a call from witnesses and a foster volunteer, who said a baby bobcat was stuck up a utility pole on Mayfair Road in Kelowna’s Rutland neighbourhood. Crows were pecking at the young cat, but it still didn’t seem inclined to get down, even after several hours near the top of the pole, the society told CTV News. The OHS helped the callers contact FortisBC, which owns the pole and was able to dispatch a crew to deal with the situation. Once a FortisBC worker in a lift got close to the bobcat, the animal began to shimmy its way down the pole, eventually returning to the ground and running into a forested area nearby. The humane society shared video of the bobcat’s descent on social media, offering its gratitude to the witnesses and the FortisBC crew that helped the animal save itself.
