SHA to launch daily updates on emergency service disruptions

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) says spring flooding has cut off road access to Île-à-la-Crosse, limiting access to hospital.

According to the SHA, a major section of Highway 908, the main route in and out of Île-à-la-Crosse, is closed due to flooding. The Ministry of Highways reported the closure on May 8.

As a result, there is currently no road access to Île-à-la-Crosse, including the hospital, for residents who do not live in the village.

However, the SHA says the Île-à-la-Crosse Hospital remains open and accessible to people within the community.

“Hospitals in La Loche and Meadow Lake remain accessible. Patients requiring care will be directed to these communities as needed,” SHA said.

Emergency Medical Services remain available within Île-à-la-Crosse, and the community airstrip is still operational to support emergency evacuations if required.

Anyone experiencing a medical emergency is advised to call 9‑1‑1 or go to the nearest accessible emergency department.

For non‑emergency care, residents can call HealthLine 811 to access medical and mental health advice around the clock.

The northern village of Île-à-la-Crosse is located about 450 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert.
