Murder charge reduced, Sask. woman accused of killing husband heads to trial

A Saskatoon woman accused of killing her husband is heading to trial.

Danny Magowan, 42, was found dead at the couple’s Corman Park home on Aug. 23, 2024.

His wife, Lauren Besse, was initially charged with first-degree murder. The charge was reduced to second-degree after a preliminary hearing last week in Saskatoon Provincial Court.

All evidence from that hearing is covered by a publication ban.

Besse has elected to be tried at the Court of King’s Bench before a judge and jury.

Trial dates are expected to be set in the new year.
