‘It is a vibe’: Saskatchewan’s largest cheer competition returns for 19th year

Cheerleading, dance and pom athletes gathered in Warman over the weekend for Saskatchewan’s largest competition, featuring talent from across Canada.

“We have different type styles. We have over 210 teams, over 3,200 athletes. It is electrifying. There’s something about the Cheer Classic, how everything bounces off, it is a vibe,” Leslie Stevenson, the event’s producer, said.

The Warman Cheer Classic returned for the 19th year. Athletes aged three to 30 had the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Warman Communiplex. Stevenson said the annual event is something many cheerleaders and dancers look forward to each year.

“It’s one of their favorites and that makes my heart happy. And I just aim to make sure that they’re always happy,” Stevenson said.

Stevenson added that the event is an opportunity for athletes from across Canada to connect with one another.

“I think it’s great to see all the different styles, who’s doing what. They watch each other on Instagram and TikTok and all the things. Watching them and getting to meet each other and cheer each other on,” Stevenson said.
