Corman Park Police updating operations, rolling out new emblem

The Corman Park Police Service is charting a new course as its recently appointed chief outlines plans for operational changes and a modernized look.

Chief Robert Duttchen, who took on the role in early December, says the focus is on improving efficiency and strengthening partnerships with other policing agencies.

“We’re going to look for where there are opportunities,” Duttchen said. “Opportunities in collaboration with other police agencies like our RCMP partners and the Saskatchewan Marshals.”

It comes as police services across Saskatchewan face growing demands.

“The number one reality is that all of the agencies that are policing now are being asked to do more with less resources,” he said.

Policing one of Saskatchewan’s largest and most populous rural municipalities brings its own challenges.

“The geographical expanse of our region in the RM of Corman Park is incredibly large,” he said.

Duttchen says addressing those challenges requires a focus on efficiency, including responding to crashes outside their jurisdiction when they are closer and coordinating with the RCMP to get help to scenes faster.

He says the service is also working to reduce the RCMP’s administrative burden through joint projects.

Beyond day-to-day operations, the service is refreshing its appearance with a new heraldic emblem featuring the updated Canadian Royal Crown.

“This seemed like a natural way for us to modernize our organizational appearance and to make us look more like traditional Canadian police,” Duttchen said.

Officers will begin wearing the new emblems immediately. All police vehicles are expected to carry the updated branding within five years as the fleet is gradually replaced.
