Police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting a man at his North Courtenay home early Wednesday morning, sparking a 24-hour manhunt.

Comox Valley RCMP say the 27-year-old Saanich man was arrested at a home in the 2200-block of Coleman Road Thursday morning at 5:50 a.m.

With help from the Island District Emergency Response Team, investigators recovered a firearm in the arrest.

He remains in custody and RCMP say criminal charges against him are pending.

“The Comox Valley RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance and patience over the past 24 hours,” Comox Valley RCMP spokesman Const. Rob Gardner said in a statement.

The search for the suspect began after a shooting in the 5700-block of Highway 19A North early Wednesday morning.

RCMP say there was a brief interaction between the suspect and the 30-year-old victim before he was shot.

The victim was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mounties say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with further information to contact them at 250-338-1321 and cite file number 2018-3288.
