The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released kicker Dawson Hodge, according to a social media announcement Sunday afternoon. The Canadian kicker has been with the Green and White since Aug. 6, when he was signed to compete with kicker Alex Hale for the starting job. In September, Hodge eventually earned the starting job over Hale who completed just 75 per cent of his field goal attempts (24 of 32). Hale had also struggled to maintain consistency on kicks 40 yards or longer. Since becoming starter, Hodge went five-for-five on field goal attempts until Saskatchewan’s week 18 game against the Calgary Stampeders. In that game, he went two-for-four, including misses from 53 yards and 45 yards away. The Coquitlam, B.C.-product’s two makes were from 38 and 44 yards respectively, with the second being the longest of his career.
